Tasti Desk vs 7shifts
7shifts is restaurant scheduling and team management software from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with a time clock, team communication, tip management and payroll options on its paid plans, and a free plan for small teams. If scheduling and tips are your main problem, it’s built for exactly that. Tasti Desk schedules too, with labour cost live and BC rules checked, but its point is having the schedule next to supplier bills, food cost and stock, so one morning note covers the whole operation. Desk does not run payroll or tip pooling.
Tasti Desk vs MarginEdge
MarginEdge processes invoices, tracks price changes, and covers inventory, recipe costing, menu analysis and a daily controllable P&L. Its pricing page lists $350 per location a month for its main plan, and says Bill Pay is not offered to Canadian clients. Tasti Desk covers the same core jobs for small venues (bills read line by line, price rises, recipe cost, stock) and adds the staff schedule with BC rules, at $149 CAD per location a month.
Tasti Desk vs Square’s own tools
Square’s POS already gives you sales, items and team members, and Square Shifts adds scheduling and timecards (free for up to 5 team members, with Shifts Plus priced per team member). Tasti Desk doesn’t replace Square: it connects to it in a few minutes, reads your sales, menu and team, and puts them next to supplier bills read line by line, food cost from real prices, stock counts against deliveries, BC rule checks in the schedule and Avo’s morning note.
When Tasti Desk is the right fit
- You run an independent café, restaurant, bar, bakery or dessert shop with 1 to 5 locations, in BC or elsewhere in Canada.
- Schedules, supplier bills and food cost currently live in spreadsheets, inboxes and your head.
- You use Square, or you’re happy for the founder to connect your POS.
When something else may fit better
- You need payroll, a time clock, shift swaps, tip pooling or bill payment inside the same tool.
- You run more than 5 locations (Tasti.io builds custom systems for groups: tasti.io).
